Petition Drive for "Eden Lane to Guest Co-Host The View"?
How did it get started:
For the past several seasons viewers often ask me about appearing on national programs which is a flattering idea. After out 150th episode special I responded to a few on Twitter and Facebook. When he read that
Andy Szekeres posted a suggestion for a petition. Last weekend he launched a Change.Org petition to urge Bill Geddie (Executive Producer) and Barbara Walters (Creator/Co-Host) of ABC's popular daytime talk show The View to invite me to be a guest Co-Host.
Why it’s important to me:
Reading the messages some of the petition signers have posted underscores how much bigger this is than merely something exciting for me personally and professionally. They mention the impact on our coverage of Colorado’s Arts community, many compliment my work as a host and journalist, but even more cite the historic nature of “The first trans journalist on mainstream TV in the US” reaching a national audience.
“Trans people need to be celebrated in everyday situations. Not just the topic of tell all documentaries”
“It's past time to have trans people appear on talk shows and be able to show America we can talk about a wide variety of subjects just like anyone else.”
“It's time our mainstream media started looking at trans people and media makers as people not human interest stories.”
“have her shown in that positive light with other professional broadcasting women in the national spotlight.
Then I consider the hundreds of LGBT teens and young adults who have reached out to me since we went on the air. Many still looking for evidence they can be more than the images they see in the media. They ask for support, tell me my work gives them hope they can achieve their dreams. This is an enormous responsibility. A responsibility that means if there is a chance to elevate a positive message and image as a Woman who is also a Trans Woman I can’t turn away. It is also important to show my own daughter when I tell her not to be defined or limited by the opinions of others, to reach out for every opportunity she desires, to put in the work and good things happen... those are principles I live by.

Intro (excerpt)
This is just a very brief excerpt...just a taste...
I always wanted to be a sex symbol. The kind of woman I saw in old Hollywood movies. Even as a child, I would watch Bill Kennedy At The Movies and see all those beautiful women who seemed so glamorous and powerful. They could walk into a room and all the men would notice them, but it took a special man to get their attention. I wanted to be that kind of woman. At least that’s what I thought I had to be if I wanted to be loved and desired. Then I got to be one, well in a way, and it wasn’t what I really wanted at all. Of course I still wanted to be pretty, sexy even, but what I truly wanted was something harder to grasp. The example my grandmother, and great-grandmother, set was stronger, fuller, and more honest than that one-dimensional icon. The Hollywood version was easier to imitate, but did not carry the satisfaction I thought it might.
Working for an authentic version of myself was more difficult. It was also more interesting, more honest, and often more fun. Embracing my identity was in alignment with the feminist message carried in the example of the women I most admired. No one was more surprised than I when I discovered that I could love life in the big city, (theater, dancing, parties, and of course the big one, … SHOPPING!!!) while at the same time yearn for a family, a piece of the ‘traditional’ pie.
150 Episodes
CPT12 press release
What a thrill to have reached this milestone.
What a thrill to have reached this milestone.
n her one-of-a-kind program, host Eden Lane profiles large organizations including the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado Ballet, and Opera Colorado. But Eden also shines her unique and passionate light on smaller organizations and artists such as Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Vintage Theatre, Ballet Nouveau Colorado, and the Pikes Peak Writers. Additionally, Lane provides front row seats to her viewers with special arts events including The Starz Denver Film Festival, Telluride Playwrights Festival, and The Henry Awards.
“Reaching 150 episodes and celebrating five seasons is wonderful, but we’ve just scratched the surface of the Arts in Colorado” commented Lane, “Colorado Public Television has provided an important platform for us to show the artists in a way you can’t find anywhere else. It is a privilege and a responsibility for which I’m deeply grateful.”

Can you help us keep In Focus on the air?
I have loved shining a light on Colorado's impressive creative community for 5 seasons. It has been a privilege as well as a responsibility. As this year ends and we plan the rest of our season I ask you to help spread the word about our Year-End Funding Campaign. In Focus is the only weekly primetime broadcast devoted to the arts in our market.
Your support is critical to keep the show alive. If you can...join our team at any level... and ask your friends to do the same.

Special Message from Eden Lane
Thanks for all the messages of support. Special Thank You from Eden Lane, and a message for LGBT youth. Some of the messages I have received from teens and young adults share how isolated and disconnected they feel... and the holidays concern them.

I'm sorry If I haven't replied to you yet.
Thank you all the kindness. So many young people touching my heart.
More interview requests to consider too... so unsure how to manage it all. How will this impact my ability to work in the future? Stay on the air now?
I REALLY need an agent and a publicist. :-) Whew!
